Thanks so much to those who have stayed in touch concerning Dad's hospitalization. Mom (Rosemary) and I had been staying at the hospital day and night so there was little time for e-mail or phoning but, thank God, Dad was moved to Baylor Rehab Hospital yesterday. He has a couple of problems that still have to be resolved before he can get into the full "rehabilitation program" but they are dealing with it. We just stay focused on one-day-at-a-time!!! So please keep praying for his full recovery and thank God for what he has done in the past four and a half weeks!!!

If you are able to send e-mails or cards, please send the e-mails to my address above. For cards, it would be best to send them to my brother's house where Mom stays at night. Send them to Trent Thompson, 2128 Tar Road, Cedar Hill, Texas 75104. Any encouragement and praise you can give Dad would be greatly appreciated because he has a long uphill climb to recovery.

Always, Barbara Thompson

Hello to everyone that served on the Goodship Lollypop!! I would like to thank all of the members of our bucket of bolts that attended our last reunion in Philadelphia, PA. It took me twenty-five years to run one and I hope you think it was worth the wait!! It never would of happened without Maria, my son Vic and their friends. If I ran it myself, you would be sitting on benches in front of the hotel drinking coffee for a week (no donuts)!! Many thanks to everyone who pitched in!! It couldn't have been the success it was without you!! Looking forward to our next reunion and spending time with you all again!! Merry Christmas To All and a Healthy and Happy New Year!!

P.S. Yelson, Bruce says HELLO!!!!

Hello Belle Grove Friends -- We wanted to let you know that Dad (Trent Thompson) finally woke up from his surgery yesterday. They have taken the ventilator off and he is breathing on his own today. He is still in critical condition but all his vitals are good as well as his ability to respond to commands by blinking his eyes. Due to all the equipment that was on him, he cannot talk nor can he stand yet but they are working on arm and leg movement. We have faith that everything else will occur as soon as he gains some strength again. Thanks to all of you for your e-mail messages and your prayers! I told Dad about them and he smiled so he knows you are all pulling for him. I'm printing your e-mails for him to read when he is able. Thank you!

We feel very blessed to have the Belle Grove family in our lives. Have a great Holiday Season and we'll keep you informed as Dad progresses.

Always, Barbara Thompson

Dear Belle Grove shipmates -- I wanted to let you know about the medical situation Dad has been going through the past three weeks and ask you to pray for his recovery.

When I arrived home in Brownwood three weeks ago today, Dad was having a hard time lifting his feet and walking in general. Mom (Rosemary) said it had been getting worse over the past month, so we kept a good eye on him throughout the next day and by Sunday it was clear he needed urgent medical attention so we took him to ER in Brownwood for diagnosis, he was sent to Abilene by ambulance and then by CareFlight to Dallas a few days later. We've been in three hospitals over the past three weeks and they found his back aortic valve in his heart had given out almost completely. Thankfully, his heart surgeon in Abilene knew of a new experimental procedure in Dallas led by one of his Medical School buddies so he worked diligently to get him into the program. We had no alternatives except full open-heart surgery which they felt he couldn't tolerate again.

After days of testing and evaluation, he was accepted as a good candidate for the procedure which is the least invasive of all the aortic valve research procedures. He had the surgery on Tuesday and has been in ICU since then. Thankfully his heart is working perfectly with the new aortic valve.

Dad's not doing very well (yet) but this is the same way he did in Abilene after his heart surgery (four years ago when he didn't wake up for eight days). It is agonizing! They tried to take the ventilator off yesterday morning. He opened his eyes for a while and moved his left arm and leg but nothing much as yet on the right side. I'm just thinking they are rushing him too much, as they had to put the ventilator back in again yesterday afternoon (for the third time), but they don't want him to get too weak either so they've now put in a feeding tube. We are just in the "waiting mode" right now! If you wish, I'll keep you informed as things progress!

I hope you had a very Happy Thanksgiving! Ours, of course, was at the hospital, but it was still good. Please send this on to other Belle Grove shipmates.

Love to you and yours,
Barbara Thompson
Trent's Daughter
