Hello to all, We are still in the deep freeze, and expecting more snow Monday, it has been a very very long winter in Iowa. Record snow over 57 inches, normally we get 8 inches per month from December thru March. Otherwise we are fine, just don't go out on the roads. Some sad news today. Gene Geiger, good friend and shipmate of Les's passed away November 16, 2009. He lived in Riverside, CA., with his son and family, Jeff. Many health issues diabetes, cancer, and heart problems, they assured us that he died peacefully and painless free. He served on the BG from 10/59 to 01/63. Survived by four children. Last reunion he attended was in Kerrville, TX. He had two older sisters that lived in Iowa, and was back a few years ago to visit us and then go and visit with his sisters, at that time he was driving a huge truck/trailor for his living. And lived in Texas for several years before going back to California. Here is his son's address: Jeff Geiger, 17744 Corrine Way, Riverside, CA. 92504 Thank you, Les and janet

Good morning shipmates and righthanders
Another shipmate has passed away this past week. Herbert B. Brown, SR. from PA. He and his wife Jeannette had just recently moved into Assisted Living apartments. Jeanette is suffering from early Altzimers, and it was becoming apparent that Herb could not longer give her the efficient care that she needed. Herb had heart problems and many other health issues and had been in and out of the hospital over the past few months. They had attended many reunions in the past, and Herb was our resident pastor for many of the reunions at the banquets and business meetings. Just a wonderful, caring, kind man, and always a joy to be around. He truly enjoyed life and the people around him. He retired as a minister, and then decided he would preach in smaller churches throughout the area where they lived. Herb was on board the USS Belle Grove LSD2 from 05/51 to 08/54, his rank EM2 Please keep your thoughts and prayers for this wonderful man and his family.
Thank you,
Janet and Les Maudlin
