It,s sure to bad about Les.We have a card to send to him.Lowells brother Bill passed away March 11th.He had a bad heart and it just gave out.He was 81.We will go to his funeral tomorrow in Otis,Co.Our prayers are with all the ones who are not well ,and those who have had accidents.Speaking of accidents, someone ran a stop sign and we hit them in the drivers door. Our van was totaled. Her ins.paid on our van so Lowell said the 2002 van we got only cost $200.00 Sence we only had to pay that much above what they gave us.No one was hurt so thats all that matters.

I just received an e-mail from Jan Maudlin. They are in Florida with their granddaughters softball team. Last Fri. Les was hit by a hit and run driver while crossing the street by their hotel. Quoting Jan." he had a very badly cut right knee and right elbow and few stitches in left knee. He has over 30 stitches. When working on his elbow he complained about his stomach so they stopped everything put in an IV and gave him oxygen. A cat scan shows he has an aorta aneurysm in his stomach, small nodule at the bottom ofhis left lung and kidney stones in his right kidney. He is very, very sore and has a brace on his right knee so he can't bend it while it heals." They will be home Thurs. and Les has an appt. with his doctor on Fri. Time for all of us to put thoughts and prayers together for two of our Belle Grove family who do so much for all of us. Jan and Les Maudlin 5699 Ford St. Norwalk Ia. 50211-1727 Phone # 515-981-5509 Jans Cell # 515-778-3917 I know they will appreciate our concern. Donna

Good morning! We have lots of sunshine and the snow is melting, melting, melting, and that is a good thing. Wanted to remind you about making your reservations for the New Mexico reunion, time is passing by quickly. And want to send you an address for Ken and Rose Ronjoin PO Box 518, Hurricane, UT 84737-0578. Ken has been going through some health issues recently, a knee replacement, some problems with his back, and also his cancer has returned, otherwise they are doing fine. Keep them in your prayers and thoughts, and say hey to them. Their email: RONJOIN@aol.com. Thank you. Enjoy the sunshine and the spring about to approach. We are off to Florida next week for 10 days to watch our granddaughter play softball for the Simpson College team, she is a senior already. Sure have enjoyed watching ther perform, as her home is not Iowa, it is Washington State, but we have had her in Iowa for four years and it has been a joy. Take care. Love, Les and Janet

Hello Shipmates and Righthanders: There all of a sudden are some alarming emails and phone calls from the mid 50's sailors, that were involved with "Operation HardCastle", many with cancer, heart problems and children born with defects and other health issues. The Govenment is ignoring this service time for these men, if any of you have information or contacts with VA, please get back to me ASAP. You may also want to get on the NARS website, google this site, and I think you might find some interesting things available and hopefully answer some questions. I have been in contact with Peg Fowler, her husband Billie Fowler was on the BG at that time, and had lung cancer, one lung was removed, and finally the govenment did provide compensation, but Billie passed away over a year ago, and Peggy no longer receives monies, she was told she makes to much money. But she gave me this person to contact, and hopefully if you get in touch with him, he can give you names of people closer to where you live to help you out, and keep your fingers crossed. Anyway here is the address: BC Gibbard, Regional Service Center Manager of VA Affairs, PO 1437, St. Petersburg, FL. 33731. These people are swamped but this does not give the government the right to deny any of you that deserves some help money wise and health wise from the VA. Hopefully in the next newsletter we will have more information for all of you. We are trying to do what we can, but our hands are tied, because this is so hush-hush. Just as the Agent Orange thing while the BG was in Vietnam. We are trying to work on that issue as well. Thank you, Les and Janet

Hello friends, Well, we are going for the record snowfall, in 1911 they had 72 inches of snow for the winter, right now we are 61.9 inches of snow, expecting 5 to9 inches tonight, and hopefully no more thru the end of this long long month. It has been very tiring and frustrating for the Iowa folks. But keep saying Spring is around the corner. Wanted to pass on some news about our good shipmate Jake Chakov and his beautiful wife, Becky. She has been sick, and was taken to hospital and discovered kidney failure, was there for a long time, and is now on dialysis, and back home recovering. It has been a tough go for them, so enclosing their address so you can kindly send them a card. Jake is a 40's guy and met Becky later in life and they are always a joy at the Navy reunions. Their address: Jake & Becky Chakov, 8636 Cranberry CT NE, Bemidji, MN 69154-0074. Keep Becky in your thoughts and prayers. Thank you, Les and Janet
